Jointly sponsored by China Centre for International Science and Technology Exchange (CISTE), Center for Environmental Science in Saitama (Japan), Korea-China Science & Technology Cooperation Center (KOSTEC), Guangxi Association for Science and Technology, Guangxi Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment and Guangxi Provincial Department of Water Resources, the 9th China-Japan Aquatic Environment Technology Exchange Conference & the 2nd China-Japan-Korea Forum on Water Resources Development were successfully held on June 4, 2019 in Nanning, Guangxi.
Na Xiang, Secretary of Leading Party Members' Group and Vice President of Guangxi Association for Science and Technology, presided over the Opening Ceremony, which was addressed by Jia Ziwen, Deputy Director General of CISTE; Shogo MURAKAMI, Director of Center for Environmental Science in Saitama; KIM JONG SEON , Chief Representative of KOSTEC; and Hidekazu CHAYAMA, Chief Representative of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) Beijing Office. Peng Bin, Deputy Secretary General of China Society for Environmental Sciences, chaired the thematic session. This event was attended by over 200 representatives from Guangxi Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, Guangxi Provincial Department of Water Resources, Guangxi Hydraulic Engineering Society, Guangxi Society for Environmental Sciences and more than ten companies from China, Japan and South Korea.
China-Japan Water Environment Technology Exchange Conference made its debut in 2010 and has been successfully held for eight sessions. Taking "Protecting Water Resources and Improving Water Environment" as the main theme, the Conference of this year invited experts and specialists from China, Japan and South Korea to exchange views and insights and to promote mutual learning of successful practices. In the meantime, a host of entities, including Guangxi Association for Science and Technology, were mobilized to push ahead with the development of and the technology innovations in the sector of water resources management, in an effort to bolster the economic and social development of Guangxi Province.
"Water is the source of life and the root of human civilizations, and protecting water resources and improving water environment is a must for mankind at all times, " said Deputy Director General Jia Ziwen on behalf of CISTE. "General Secretary Xi Jinping once pointed out that a good ecological environment is the most equitable public product for and the most inclusive well-being of the people. Protecting the ecological environment and reducing environmental pollutions is a great cause that benefits not only this generation, but many more to come. The purpose of this event is to draw broad public attention to water environmental protection and management, to bring together experts and specialists from China, Japan and South Korea to share insightful views, and to share China’s experience and solutions with Asia and the world."
During the thematic session, 11 esteemed Chinese, Japanese and Korean experts, including Researcher Fan Chengxin at CAS Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology, Director Shogo MURAKAMI at the Center for Environmental Science in Saitama and Senior Research KIM SEOG KU at Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), delivered brilliant and insightful speeches including "Internal-Load Control Technologies and Demonstration in the Bays of Chaohu Lake", "Status Quo of Greenhouse Effect in Saitama and the Coping Strategy", "Changes and Decentralized Treatment of Domestic Sewage Treatment in Japan", "Key Technology Innovations and Applications to Guarantee the Water Quantity and Quality of Lijiang River", "River Algae Management", "Intelligent Operation of Sewage Treatment Plant Based on Big Data and Machine Learning", "Importance of Genotyping of Microcystis and the Use of Attached Algae to Suppress Green Tide", "Explorations and Practices of Ecological Risk Control and Management of Urban Water Environment", etc.
During the session of company roadshow, technicians and engineers from China, Japan and South Korea shared their insights on the frontier issues of the water environment and the best way forward to promote the high-quality development of the environmental industry. Representatives from Guangxi Hongshengyuan Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, Huahong Water Group, KG Chemical Corporation, Guangxi Hydraulic Research Institute, Maezawa Industries, Inc. and Guangxi Lukang Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. exchanged views on sewage treatment and water resources protection technologies. In particular, the sewage purification technology introduced by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation became the highlight of the Conference. The questions actively raised by the representatives also provided great inspiration to the participating enterprises who are committed to build a better water environment.
During their stay in Nanning, experts from China, Japan and South Korea visited relevant enterprises and water treatment establishments, including Nanning Hydrological Station, Beijing Drainage Group Co., Ltd. and Guangxi BOSSCO Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. The experts shared insights on the water treatment technologies most concerned by the enterprises, and put forth suggestions on the development direction, technical weaknesses and needs of relevant enterprise.
In addition, during this event, the experts also participated in and provided guidance on "2019 Guangxi Eco-Environmental Public Science and Eco-Environmental S&T Volunteer Campaign in Qingxiu Mountain, Nanning", which was sponsored by Guangxi Autonomous Region Department of Ecology and Environment and Guangxi Association for Science and Technology and organized by Guangxi Society for Environmental Sciences, Nanning Bureau of Ecology and Environment and the Management Committee of Nanning Qingxiu Mountain Scenic Resort. The experts encouraged ecological and environmental professionals to devote themselves to the work of science communication and urged to expand the team of experts and volunteers for communicating ecological and environmental sciences, thereby further broadening the influence of this event and increasing the environmental awareness of local people in Guangxi.
