Introduction to the Special Program on International Organizations Affairs

The Special Program on International Organizations Affairs is aimed to support Chinese scientists to take on leading roles in important international non-governmental S&T organizations and to improve their capabilities to engage in the decision-making and management of international non-governmental S&T organizations and to take part in international academic exchanges, thereby improving the international status and influence of Chinese scientists, making full use of the resources provided by international non-governmental S&T organizations, serving the strategic goal of building China into an innovative country, and serving the general diplomatic strategies of China.
Working closely with CAST Department of International Affairs, CISTE is responsible for organizing, coordinating, reviewing and implementing the specific support work under the Special Program on International Organizations Affairs, and assisting in the supervision, inspection and performance assessment of the implementation of specific projects and the use of funds.
Over the past years, CISTE has undertaken a broad array of tasks for the secretariat of International Science Council China Committee (ISC-China), China National Committee of World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO-China) and Chinese National Committee for Integrated Research on Disaster Risk Program (IRDR CHINA), specifically: to organize, coordinate and promote the engagement of Chinese S&T professionals in related international S&T organizations and programs; to study major issues related to China in various organizations and their activities, and to advise on how the Chinese S&T community should respond to these issues; to foster, select and recommend Chinese S&T professionals to serve in international S&T organizations, and to assist them in playing their roles.
